Anton Hein was a representative of historicism . His neo-baroque residential buildings had lavishly decorated facades and met the representational needs of the bourgeoisie. From the turn of the century, secessionist motifs were also mixed into the facade decoration, which corresponded to the taste of the time. Only after 1910 did he completely break away from the historicist conception and decoration.

Hein was highly respected for the use of reinforced concrete structures, which were seen as new and bold. In addition to residential buildings, Hein also built large car halls for the Viennese trams and, during the war, the barracks hospitals in Meidling and at the Spinnerin am Kreuz as well as in other parts of the monarchy.
