Anton Hinderberger
Anton Hinderberger (born October 27, 1886 in Mutlangen , † September 14, 1963 in Rottenburg am Neckar ) was a Roman Catholic clergyman and dean of the cathedral in the Rottenburg-Stuttgart diocese. He initiated the settlement work of the diocese.
Life
Hinderberger first studied Catholic theology at the Catholic Theological Faculty in Tübingen . On July 10, 1912, he was ordained a priest in Rottenburg am Neckar . He then became vicar at St. Maria in Stuttgart , where he worked until 1920. He then became a lecturer at the Wilhelmsstift in Tübingen as a repetiteur for canon law . From 1923 Hinderberger was diocesan president of the journeyman's associations , now known as the Kolping Society , and from 1930 also president of the youth and young men’s associations in Stuttgart. Described as a gifted preacher, he held the Catholic morning celebrations from 1927 to 1938 as a radio pastor at Süddeutscher Rundfunk . In 1933 he was employed as a grammar school teacher for religion in Stuttgart, and in 1934 he was appointed pastor of Stuttgart-Degerloch .
1938 Hinderberger was the Bishop Joannes Baptista Sprollenhaus as a canon in the Rottenburg cathedral chapter called. He was given the “Caritas” department. In addition, Hinderberger was an official in the diocese from 1938 to 1947 . In the seven years in which the diocese was without a bishop, as he openly opposed the National Socialists , the tasks of the bishop were carried out by the entire cathedral chapter, so Hinderberger was also given episcopal tasks during this time. After the end of the war, Hinderberger became the bishop's right-hand man in building matters in order to provide a home for the many homeless and displaced Catholics. He initiated the Rottenburg diocese settlement work and became its chairman in 1949. During this time 630 kindergartens, 15 youth residences, various nursing homes and hospitals were built. In addition, entire settlements emerged, which can still be recognized today due to their construction. Such diocesan settlements still exist today under this name, for example in Neckarsulm and Schwäbisch Gmünd .
In February 1956, Hinderberger was elected to the head of the cathedral chapter as dean of the cathedral. An office that he held until his death. He was buried in Mutlangen with great sympathy.
