Anton Nowak (painter)
Anton Nowak (born May 10, 1865 in Marburg an der Drau , † May 20, 1932 in Vienna ) was an Austrian painter .
Life
From 1892 Anton Nowak studied portrait, genre and landscape painting at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna under Christian Griepenkerl , from 1886 to 1889 he attended Leopold Karl Müller's special school .
In 1894 he became a member of the Wiener Künstlerhaus and in 1897 he was one of the founding members of the Vienna Secession ; his work was shown at the group's first exhibition. 1908/09 he was President of the Secession. Some of his woodblock prints appeared in her magazine Ver Sacrum . In 1899 he was elected to the committee of the Association of Austrian Artists .
For many years Nowak was the head of the painting school in Brno .
style
Anton Nowak mainly painted landscapes under the influence of Theodor von Hörmann ; genre representations are also known from his earlier period. Despite his participation in the Vienna Secession, his works were unaffected by Art Nouveau .
