Anton Plügel

Anton Adolf Plügel (born April 27, 1910 in Vienna-Schottenfeld , † March 6, 1945 in Königsberg in Prussia ) was an Austro-German National Socialist ethnologist and racial researcher .

Plügel studied anthropology and ethnology at the University of Vienna . In 1930 he received a position as a scientific assistant at the Völkerkundemuseum Vienna . From 1935 to 1938 he worked as a program officer for the Reichsrundfunk . In 1939 he received his doctorate in Vienna, in 1940 he went to occupied Krakow as a consultant for museum affairs, libraries and school films in the school department of the district. In 1941 he moved to the new Institute for German Ostarbeit as a member of the “Race and Ethnicity Research” section and became head of department and soon became deputy head of the section behind Fritz Arlt . Plügel createddemographic maps for the Generalgouvernement , whereby he aimed to draw a dividing line in the "Eastern Road Circle" between the "Eastern race types" in Germany and the inferior ones in Poland. “The entire breeding of this area went completely wrong for a long time and was converted to an unheroic ideal.” When he was drafted in May 1942, the employee Elfriede Fliethmann continued the work until the end of 1943. Plügel is considered missing in the Königsberg area (East Prussia)

At the age of 15 Plügel was a school group leader in Vienna, at the age of 17 he joined the NSDAP in Austria , and in 1932 he joined the Sturmabteilung . He co-founded the local branch in Brno . In parallel to his museum work, he made a career in the Hitler Youth , where he became a ban training manager and senior ban training manager. After the NSDAP ban in Austria in 1933, he remained illegally active in Lower Austria . In the German Reich he rose further up to the main consultant in the Reich leadership of the Hitler Youth. He wore the "Golden Badge of Honor of the Hitler Youth". In Krakow he was the NSDAP's head of training .
