Anton Psenner

Anton Psenner (born May 28, 1791 in Völs am Schlern ; † November 30, 1866 in Bozen ) was an artist from Tyrol .

Psenner was born as the son of Josef Psenner and Elisabeth Kritzinger. The father was a figure carver and barrel painter, the parents ran the Quireinerhof in Ums from 1800. From 1808 to 1812 he received drawing lessons from the coffee house owner and drawing teacher Kusseth at the model square in Bolzano . Psenner then studied at the Imperial and Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna from 1813 to 1816 under Franz Caucig .

Psenner lived in Rome from 1818 to 1822 and worked there as a painter ; His life-size “ Madonna ” became particularly well known . Around 1817 Psenner made the wall paintings and altarpieces for the parish church of St. John in Völser Aicha. From 1822 Psenner lived in Bolzano, where the convinced Nazarene worked as a miniature painter, portraitist, fresco and altarpiece painter.

Some of his works, such as the “ Holy Family ” and the painting “Maria with Jesus and John the Baptist ”, are in the Tyrolean State Museum in Innsbruck .
