After returning home from Soviet captivity in 1948, he published his first poem in the Simpl in May 1949 with the name Gallige Sentenz . The short-lined poetry deals with the person for whom there is no right rhyme because there is so " much that is inconsistent " in him .

After the war, he worked as a primary school teacher in Heitzenhofen an der Naab and from 1953 to 1957 in Landau an der Isar , before he was rector of the Lobkowitz secondary school in Neustadt an der Waldnaab (Upper Palatinate) from 1957 to 1960 . In 1960 he was appointed ministerial representative to Landshut and became rector of the local state secondary school. There he retired in both offices at Christmas 1977 after 17 years in office. From 1978 until his death in 2003 Schreiegg lived in the old forester's house in Seestetten. He is buried in the Sandbach cemetery.

On the 40th anniversary of his previous school in Neustadt an der Waldnaab, he gave a speech in 1990 on the subject of people and the world in transition . He recalled the change in natural conditions on earth, primarily caused by humans. In this context, he also urged rethinking.

Some of his works are Die Sternsinger aus dem Böhmerwald (published in 1966 by Laßleben Verlag) and In these fleeting times (1985). His lyrics are Böhmerwald (Böhmerwäldler Heimatbrief, 1994, p. 54), weighing and cherry twigs (Passauer Neue Presse, April 29, 2000, entertainment).
