Anton Wilhelm Buettner

Anton Wilhelm Büttner (born March 14, 1797 in Drochtersen ; † September 6, 1877 in Lüneburg ) was a royal Hanoverian colonel, later a royal Prussian major general and most recently the commander of Lüneburg.

His parents were the country secretary Christoph Berthold Clemens Büttner (* September 23, 1759 - June 19, 1825) and his wife Martha Margarete Christiane Bergst (* September 26, 1783; † July 15, 1809). His uncle Adolf Christian Heinrich (born January 4, 1761, † June 19, 1819) was last captain of the Electorate of Hanover and was already fighting in the East Indies .

Life

In 1813 he volunteered in the Bremen field battalion , where he was made a lieutenant on August 14, 1813. After the wars of liberation . In 1819 he switched to the Hanoverian service, where he joined the 4th Infantry Regiment. On September 27, 1826 he was promoted to captain there, and in 1830 he joined the 4th Line Battalion as such. In 1839 he moved to the 3rd Infantry Regiment, from where he was transferred to the 6th Infantry Regiment as a major on October 14, 1846. Promoted to lieutenant colonel on October 5, 1848, he came to Lüneburg on May 27, 1854 as commander of the 5th Infantry Regiment. On May 20, 1856 he was promoted to colonel and in 1858 was appointed commandant of Lüneburg. During the German War of 1866 he had to hand over the keys to the city to the Prussians. After the defeat, Hanover was annexed by the Prussians and the army disbanded, Büttner left the army.

On August 22, 1871 he was then given the character of major general. He died on September 6, 1877 in Lüneburg.

He was a bearer of the Guelph Order 2nd Class , the Waterloo Medal , the Ernst August Cross , the war commemorative coin for 1813 , the Brunswick Order of Henry the Lion 2nd Class and the Hanseatic Medal of Honor .

family

Büttner married Ernestine Stoltze in Celle in 1831 (* October 22, 1803; † April 24, 1878). The couple had several children:
