Anton Will

Anton Will (* 1752 in Strasbourg ; † September 13, 1821 in Munich ) was a German medic .

Life

Will studied philosophy and medicine at Ingolstadt University . He completed this course in 1777 with a doctorate to become Dr. phil. and in 1781 with a Dr. med. from. A new chair was created especially for him at the university.

At this chair, Will worked from 1781 as a professor artis veterinariae and teacher of anatomical chyrurgical operations and bandages . From the beginning Will was exposed to great envy and there were also some intrigues against him.

In 1772 Will went to study at the Universities of Strasbourg , Lyon and Charenton-le-Pont for two years . In 1784 he returned to his university in Ingolstadt . But soon after his return he was suspected of belonging to the Illuminati order . The suspicion of being an Illuminate was enough to immediately drive him from Ingolstadt.

After several years, Will was able to gain a foothold again in Munich . In 1790 he was appointed director of the newly founded Thier-Arzney School in Munich, which later became the veterinary faculty of the University of Munich . There he drafted, among other things, epidemiological regulations against anthrax , rinderpest and rabies .

Anton Will died in Munich at the age of 71. In 1927 a street was named after him in the Neuherberg district of Munich .
