Antonia Gössinger (born August 30, 1958 in Sankt Veit an der Glan ) is an Austrian journalist . On January 9, 2015, she was appointed editor-in-chief of the Kleine Zeitung Kärnten.

Life

Antonia Gössinger grew up in Liebenfels in a family close to the FPÖ , but became involved in the ÖVP at an early age . This resulted in a job at the party organ Volkszeitung , through which she discovered journalism for herself. After a short interlude in Vienna in the press service of the then FPÖ chairman Norbert Steger , she accepted an offer from the Kleine Zeitung .

Antonia Gössinger has worked in the editorial department of the Kleine Zeitung in Carinthia since 1983 . She has been writing the "Salt & Pepper" column since the early 1990s . She was considered to be the “favorite enemy” of Governor Jörg Haider . The BZÖ reacted to her critical reporting as a political editor in what was described by fellow journalists as a defamation campaign . The journalists' union expressed its solidarity with Antonia Gössinger. These incidents were a media issue in Austria, and the legal dispute about them was decided by the Supreme Court in favor of the BZÖ.

On February 1, 2015, she became editor-in-chief of the Kleine Zeitung Kärnten, succeeding Eva Weissenberger , who switched to news as editor-in-chief .

Awards

In 2006 Gössinger was awarded the Kurt Vorhofer Prize . She is recognized for her "personal courage and an uplifting of political culture" through her "critical attitude towards rulers of all kinds" .

In 2009 she received the Concordia Prize in the category of freedom of the press on the grounds: Antonia Gössinger unwaveringly accepted her journalistic responsibility against all attempts, some of which were massive, to intimidate her .
