Antonio Biasetton (born April 23, 1928 in Treviso , Italy , † March 15, 1977 in New York City , New York ), better known by his ring name Antonino Rocca, was an Italian - Argentine wrestler . Above all, he is considered a pioneer of the high flying style. His greatest successes were receiving the NWA World Tag Team title, as well as receiving the WWWF International Heavyweight Champion title. In 1995 he was inducted posthumously into the WWE Hall of Fame .

Career

Biasetton was born in Treviso, Italy, but moved to Buenos Aires with his family at the age of 15 . He was trained by Stanislaus Zbyszko, who had been a promoter in South America since the 1930s and thus became aware of Rocca. Rocca has always played his wrestling matches barefoot since then, as he had no money for appropriate shoes and it offered him better support.

In 1949 he graduated from the Universidad Nacional de Rosario with a degree in electrical engineering and came to the United States.

Biasetton became a crowd puller in the New York scene, as he was able to lure many Italian-American fans into the arena through his parentage. Mostly he was used in tag team matches with Miguel Pérez Sr., who was only 18 years old at the time. Biasetton never became a big titleholder because promoters felt he would be popular enough without a title. After the end of his active career in 1967 he was still active as a commentator.

In 1995 he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame .

Private and death

Biasetton was married to Joyce and had three children.

Biasetton died on March 15, 1977 at Roosevelt Hospital in New York after presenting two weeks earlier with a urinary tract infection .
