Antonio Cifariello (born May 19, 1930 in Naples , † December 12, 1968 in Lusaka , Zambia ) was an Italian actor .

Life

Cifariello, whose father - a sculptor - was 66 years old when he was born and died six years later by suicide, made his film debut at the age of twenty under the pseudonym "Fabio Montale" in La sposa non vestiva di bianco (who only died in 1953 Title has been published). He was first known as a performer in photo novels , especially in "Sogno", which was very popular at the time, where he could be seen under the name "Mauro Vellani" alongside Sophia Loren . In addition to her, with whom he was a lifelong friend, he also took other steps for the cinema. At the same time he attended the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia , which he graduated with a diploma in 1953. After a role in Fellini's episode of Love in the City , Cifariello developed into one of the most sought-after young actors, who found his role as the likeable and heartbreaking man in comedies and melodramatic works, as he did in The Beautiful Girls of Florence, based on the novel by Vasco Pratolini embodied exemplary.

As a result, Cifariello was considered one of the most attractive and fascinating actors for an entire generation, especially among women, who saw the tall, photogenic, sporty actor as their dream fiancé of the time. In the following years, however, Cifariello could never escape this cliché of the sporty, jovial young bon vivant; Even more important directors such as Gianni Franciolini , Mario Camerini , Francesco Maselli , Antonio Pietrangeli or Mauro Bolognini left it with similar requirements.

After a few attempts at television films, Cifariello left acting behind him in the early 1960s and worked for the screen on reports and documentaries, which were praised for their factual accuracy and careful design. While traveling for a report, he died of an airplane accident in Zambia.
