Antonio Soldini

Antonio Soldini (born May 4, 1854 in Chiasso , † May 12, 1933 in Lugano ) was a Swiss sculptor and politician ( FDP ) from the canton of Ticino .

biography

The son of a police officer received his education in Lugano and trained as a stonemason in Bellinzona and Viggiù . From 1873 he was a student of Vincenzo Vela in Milan and graduated from the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera . In 1877 Soldini went freelance as a sculptor and worked in Milan and later in Bissone . His works have been shown at numerous exhibitions, including in Berlin , Paris and Buenos Aires . The most famous works can be seen in the Federal Palace in Bern . There are four medallions in the spandrels of the domed hall.

Soldini was also politically active on the part of the Liberals. In 1890 he was involved in the Ticino putsch against the conservative cantonal government. From 1902 to 1905 he represented his canton in the National Council and was therefore active in the building that he had helped design. From 1915 to 1927 he was mayor of Bissone, from 1923 to 1933 he belonged to the Ticino to 1927 and from 1931 cantonal parliament of.
