Apfelthal is surrounded by forests, fields, valleys and gentle heights with the quarries . The administrative districts of Upper Bavaria, Swabia and Middle Franconia meet in the immediate vicinity of the village .

history

The hamlet was created in the 1850s as the limestone slabs were extracted. In addition to quarrying Juraplatte limestone in the quarries in the area and in a natural stone factory in the hamlet itself, the residents (1877: 22, 1912: 34, 1938: 25, 1950: 42, 1973: 29) lived and live from agriculture. In 1969 land consolidation was carried out.

On July 1, 1972, Apfelthal was incorporated into the Mörnsheim market together with the community of Mühlheim , to which the place belonged.

Culture and sights

In 2003, a quarry nature trail with a fossil discovery site was built above Apfelthal . The educational trail leads over a distance of approx. 1.5 kilometers through the forest to the fossil discovery site. Along the way, boards provide information about the formation of the plate limestone and fossils, about the use of local natural stone and the correct search for fossils .
