Apostasia parvula is a kind of the genus Apostasia in the family of orchid (Orchidaceae). The herbaceous , 10 to 20 cm tall plants are only known from Borneo .

description

Apostasia parvula forms a rhizome about 1 mm in diameter, it is surrounded by dry, 4 millimeter long lower leaves. The roots have a diameter of 0.5 mm. The densely arranged leaves are linearly shaped and have a pointed end. Their length is 3 to 5.4 cm with a width of 1 to 1.5 mm. The leaf blade contains eleven to 13 longitudinal veins, three of which are clearly visible.

The inflorescence is terminal, it is erect and clearly towers above the leaves. Flowering and fruiting specimens were found from August to December. The inflorescence is simple or slightly branched, each inflorescence axis bears five to eleven flowers . These are yellow and measure 1 to 1.4 cm. The bracts are triangular to lanceolate, 1.5 to 9 mm long and 0.5 to 1.5 mm wide, they end in a 0.1 to 0.2 mm long thread-like tip. The ovary is 1 cm long with a diameter of 1 mm, at the tip it is curved. Sepals and petals hardly differ, they are each 3.8 to 4 mm long and 0.6 to 0.7 mm wide, bent back, and they have a small tip. The lip is indistinguishable from the other petals. The column consists of two fertile stamens , a Staminodium and the pen , all fused together at the base. Instead of the staminodium, there is often a third fertile stamen. The column is 1 mm long and clearly curved. The free part of the stamens is 0.4 mm long, the free part of the style 2 mm, it bears the slightly three-lobed stigma at the end . The resulting capsule fruit measures 11 mm in length and 1 to 1.5 mm in diameter.

Occurrence

Apostasia parvula is common in the east and west of Borneo. The locations are in the shade of primary forests .

Botanical history

Apostasia parvula was first described by Rudolf Schlechter in 1906 . Within the genus Apostasia de Vogel places Apostasia parvula in the Apostasia section ; In contrast to the Adactylus section, these plants have a staminodium.
