The Apostolic Prefecture Weihai was founded on June 18, 1931 by Pope Pius XI. established with the Apostolic Constitution Litteris Apostolicis from assignments of territory by the Apostolic Vicariate Chefoo as a Mission sui juris Weihai . The mission sui juris Weihai was founded on February 9, 1938 by Pius XI. with the Apostolic Constitution Merito ad maiorem raised to the Apostolic Prefecture.
