The Apostolic Vicariate Caquetá was established on December 20, 1904 by Pope Pius X. from cession of territory of the Diocese of Pasto as Apostolic Prefecture Caquetá . The apostolic prefecture Caquetá was on May 31, 1930 by Pope Pius XI. raised to the apostolic vicariate.
On February 8, 1951, the Vicariate Apostolic Caquetá was by Pope Pius XII. dissolved. The Apostolic Vicariates Florencia and Sibundoy and the Apostolic Prefecture Leticia were established from the territory of the Apostolic Vicariate Caquetá .
In 1950 there were 98,500 Catholics living in the area of the Vicariate Apostolic Caquetá. The Apostolic Vicariate was divided into eleven parishes and had 27 priests .
