Araba Evelyn Johnston-Arthur
Araba Evelyn Johnston-Arthur is an Austrian human rights activist , social scientist , curator and film actress . She lives in Vienna and Washington.
life and work
As a schoolgirl, Johnston-Arthur campaigned against racism and discrimination against migrants and Austrians who belong to the diaspora from Africa . She was a co-founder of PAMOJA, the movement of the young African diaspora in Austria. In 2006 she curated - together with Ljubomir Bratić , Lisl Ponger , Nora Sternfeld and Luisa Ziaja - the exhibition Hidden Stories - Remapping Mozart , a project of the museum in progress for the Mozart year 2006 at four locations in Vienna. In 2007 she designed the exhibition Let it be known! Together with Nora Sternfeld . , Counter-history / s of the African diaspora in Austria, in the main library on the Vienna Belt .
From 2006 to 2013 she was teaching at the University of Vienna . She has taught at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna and at Howard University in Washington DC. She is working on an interdisciplinary doctoral thesis on racism and resistance against the African diaspora in Austria . She belongs to the Remembering Silences working group headed by Ahmed Al-Nawas and is co-founder of the research group on a black Austrian past and present .
Johnston-Arthur was in 2007 Lisl Ponger film Imago Mundi involved and in 2008 took over the role of Cassandra in the feature film Morning of Haile Gerima . This film was awarded the Grand Jury Prize at the Venice International Film Festival .
