Morgentau (original title: Teza ) is an Ethiopian film drama from 2008 , which deals with the fate of a young man who set off for Germany in the 1970s with idealistic goals to study medicine. When he returned twenty years later, nothing remained of his idealism. But he hardly recognizes his country either, it is deeply divided. He seeks a connection to his past through magical rituals.

action

Anberber returns to his old homeland Ethiopia full of hope to start a new life there after studying in Germany for a few years. A whole village counts on him and expects progress from the homecomer who has been trained abroad. But already on the first evening Anberber is confronted with the political unrest in the country, which calls into question his new beginning.

He looks for the lost land of his childhood in memories, in nature, in the landscape, in the lake in which he learned to swim and in the fields in which he roamed as a little boy. Images from a previous life come to life. The pull of longing becomes more and more powerful, the more painful is the realization that the country to which he believed he was returning no longer exists. His mother decides to help him - a ceremony is supposed to show those who have been lost between energy and melancholy a way into the future, to free them from the overwhelming past. But for that he has to face her first - Anberber begins a magical journey into the heart of lost time, in search of a place where he belongs.
