history

The watermill is first mentioned in the Wallseer Urbar 1406 as an old mill . 1449 under the owner Jörg Rötl , as namesake, 1655 Wolf Drack, the rule Scharnstein (Jörger) is noted in the land register. Originally it was built as a small grain mill and powered by an 850 meter long mill stream that was diverted from the alpine pasture . In the 16th century it was expanded and turned into a sawmill . In the densely wooded Almtal, logs were transported to the Redlmühle sawmill by means of wood drifts on the river and their feeders. In addition to brisk round timber trading activity on the waterways, timber was delivered by rafting to various destinations along the Alm - Traun - Danube river . The cities of Wels , Ebelsberg and Vienna were important customers. A Draxler family of operators has been listed for more than 200 years . In 1919 the Viennese company Österr. Wald- und Holzindustrie Aktiengesellschaft founded the Redlmühle, had the grain mill and the water wheels removed, ended the large adherent agriculture and expanded it into a modern sawmill with two full gates and a Francis turbine as an energy source. It was produced day and night in three shifts. After a few changes of ownership, the sawmill was closed in 1978.

Todays use

Weir and run-of-river power plant "Redlmühle II" built in 2005

Today, the small hydropower plants Redlmühle I (main plant) and Redlmühle II (as a residual hydropower plant on the weir) are the only rudiment of the mill operation and several photovoltaic systems generate electricity, which supplies around 80 buildings in the vicinity via its own low-voltage distribution network , but also feeds into the public power grid. Two double-regulated Kaplan turbines are in use. There is historical fabric on the building. Today it includes two commercial operations and rental apartments.

traffic
