Arabic pop music
Arab pop music describes the forms of popular music in the Arab world: the Maghreb states , Mashrek (Egypt, Arab Middle East) and the Arabian Peninsula .
Arabic pop music currently includes the following regional styles in particular:
- Algerian Raï
- Kuwaiti Sawt (Sout, Sowt)
- Egyptian Al-Jil / Shaabi
- arabic hip hop
Musical instruments
In addition to western instruments that are predominantly played to a greater extent ( guitars , keyboards , turntables , bass guitars , accordion , violin , cello and drums ), the following instruments in Arabic music are sometimes also used : Bendir , Darbuka , Nay (or Ney), Oud (or Ud) , Qanun (or Kanun), Riqq and Tar .
Stars
As early as the 1920s, singers like Umm Kulthum developed an entertainment style of Arabic music. The following singers are considered to be the protagonists of Arabic pop music: Kazem al-Saher , Fairuz , Nawal Al Zoghbi , Samira Saïd , Amr Diab , Elissa , Farid el Atrache , Tamer Hosny , Cheb Khaled and Cheb Mami .
