Cheb Khaled
Cheb Khaled ( Arabic الشاب خالد asch-Shabb Chalid , DMG aš-Šābb Ḫālid ) or now simply Khaled (born February 29, 1960 in Oran , Algeria as Khaled Hadj Brahim , Arabicخالد حاج إبراهيم / Ḫālid Ḥāǧǧ Ibrāhīm ) is the internationally most famous representative of Algerian folk and popular music Raï . Cheb is not a first name, but means "young man".
Life
The Roi du Raï (King of Raï) made his first recordings at the age of 14 ( Trigh Lycée ) and by the age of 28 had already released over 100 cassettes . Khaled became known in the late 1970s and early 1980s as part of the "Pop Raï movement", with which the Raï found connection to the international pop and rock music world and whose most outstanding exponent he was alongside Cheb Mami and Chaba Fadela . El Marsem ( The Memory ), played as the first Rai piece on Algerian radio in 1983, was a Khaled piece.
Due to his exposed position and the strengthening of Islamist forces in the country, Khaled had to leave Algeria in 1986 and went to France . In 1989 he made his first big appearance in Germany at the West Berlin Horizontefestival ( Horizonte - Festival of World Cultures : No. 4, 1989). In 1992 he released his first album Khaled , which was produced entirely to Western standards in France and recorded in Los Angeles and Brussels, and at the same time dropped the Cheb in his name. The title Didi on this record is his best-selling single to this day, which even made it to a top spot in the charts in Israel . In 2007 Didi was covered by the German pop duo Milk & Honey .
In the Maghreb and in France a superstar, Khaled is also in the rest of the francophone and the Arab world for years regularly in the charts, but it is known and successful in the English-speaking music world. He also has a fan base in Germany, as evidenced by his sold-out concerts in the Altona factory in 2000 and 2004.
In 2001, Khaled had to defend himself against allegations of collaboration and a call for a boycott by Islamic conservative voices after he had made a guest appearance in Rome with the Israeli singer Noa and representatives of the Israeli government were also present at the concert. In September of the same year, his USA tour, which was planned together with Hakim among others, was canceled due to the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 in the USA.
His piece Aïcha was in the charts in Switzerland for 39 weeks and was an international success in 2003 as the cover version of the Danish group Outlandish .
In his function as ambassador for the UN organization FAO , Khaled kicked off the World Cup qualifier between France and Austria in October 2009 .
In 2013, Khaled left Monaco and settled in Morocco . On August 20, 2013, King Mohammed VI awarded him . the Moroccan citizenship. The reason he gave was that he was worried about his children because of the legalization of gay marriage in France.
