Radio Tarifa was a Spanish musical group from Madrid . Radio Tarifa was founded in the late 1980s by Faín Sánchez Dueñas, Benjamin Escoriza and Vincent Molino. Dueñas and Molino previously played in the group Ars Antiqua Musicalis .

At the end of 2006 the band announced an indefinite break. One last concert took place on November 11, 2006 in Barcelona.

Benjamín Escoriza died on March 9, 2012 at the age of 58.

style

Radio Tarifa plays “pan-Mediterranean world music ” with traditional instruments, rarely amplified electrically, using elements from Spanish, Arabic, Sephardic and medieval music. The name of the group suggests this by referring to Tarifa , Spain's closest city to Morocco .

Most of the pieces are composed and written by myself. You use instruments from various musical worlds, e.g. B. from the Orient the darbouka , the ney or the oud , the krummhorn or the Indian transverse flute bansuri , but also the electric guitar or the Hammond organ .
