Arcane was an American thrash metal band from Arlington , Texas that formed in 1986 and split around 1994.

history

The band was formed in late 1986 by Byron Hawk (electric guitar) and Jim King (drums). Both had dropped out of a pure cover band because they were no longer enough to play back songs. With Kurt Joye (electric bass) and Hawks also taking over vocals, the band was ready to go and recorded their first demo . In 1987 a second guitarist, Doug Judah, was added, who also knew a suitable singer, Oscar Barbour. The vocal parts of the demo were then renewed to the satisfaction of all members. From now on Hawk only played the electric guitar and the band could now dare to play in front of an audience. The five musicians developed some songs together, so that in January 1989 they could go back to the studio to record a second demo, which received good reviews in magazines and was often ordered. However, the band did not receive a record offer. Adapting to current trends or other people's ideas was out of the question, which is why she just waited. Meanwhile, Jim King left the band and was replaced by Kelly Sanford.

Faced with the choice of continuing with a third demo or financing an LP yourself, the decision was made against the demo, which would have been just a standstill. Hawk negotiated a financing model with the Wild Rags label , which said that the band should bear the production costs and the label would then take care of the implementation ( pressing , cover design , advertising ). In the same year , the band was able to present themselves to the public in a professional format with their debut album Destination Unknown, recorded on 24 tracks in the Sound Logic Studios in Dallas in February 1990 . Through the release, the band achieved appearances together with many bands such as Fates Warning , Sanctuary , Death Angel , Forbidden , Atrophy , MOD , Watchtower , Helstar , Solitude Aeturnus , Gammacide , Dead Horse , Oliver Magnum and Annihilator . The icing on the cake was an offer from Semaphore in Germany to sell the album there regularly (i.e. not as an imported product).

In 1991 Kelly Sanford left the band and was replaced by drummer Anthony Smircic. Shortly thereafter, Doug Judah left the band. However, the band continued their live performances, writing new material and going back to Sound Logic Studios to record another demo. In 1992 the band signed a contract with the German label Decision Records , but the two separated again before a record could be released. Decision Records later decided to release the existing demo material as an EP called Ambiguity in 1994. The band signed a deal with Texas-based Brainticket Records to re-release the previously released album, as well as re-mix demos and live DVDs, but this has still not happened.

style

The band played mostly classic thrash metal. Chris Glaub gave the advice in Break Out to listen to Destination Unknown several times before an assessment, because it is complicated, cleverly nested Power Metal , which is peppered with "countless breaks and tempi changes ". On their Myspace page, the band lists Iron Maiden , Anthrax , Metallica , Fates Warning and King Diamond as their main influences.
