Gammacide is an American thrash metal band from Arlington , Texas that was formed in 1986.

history

The band was formed in 1986 by Rick Perry (electric guitar) and Eric Roy (electric bass). Perry and Roy previously played with the local cover band Warlock. The band covered various songs by Judas Priest , Iron Maiden and Metallica . Jamey Milford (drums) and Varnam Ponville (vocals) joined the band a few months later. In a garage in Texas they recorded the first pieces together, including some songs from the Warlock era. On March 21, 1987, they played their first small gig in Fort Worth . Two weeks later they played as the inaugural band for Rigor Mortis and Watchtower at the Arcadia Theater in Dallas . In early 1987 the band took part in a "Battle of the Bands". Gammacide made it into the top eight and appeared on a local compilation cassette called Metal Cruelty .

In the summer of 1987 the band recorded their first demo in the Pantego Sound Studios . The demo was produced by Jerry Abbott , father of Vinnie Paul Abbott and Darrell Abbott . A song called Shock Treatment of this demo appeared on the compilation Thrash Metal Attack II by Renaissance Records . This was followed by further appearances in Texas, where the band played together with some local bands such as Solitude Aeturnus , Arcane , Morbid Scream and Rigor Mortis. Appearances with other local bands in other parts of Texas such as Houston , Austin and Victoria followed . The band also played in Oklahoma and Louisiana .

In November 1988, Scott Shelby joined the band as the second guitarist. Further appearances followed in Texas and Gammacide played as the opening band for Death , Sacred Reich , Dark Angel , Morbid Angel and Exodus . In the summer of 1989, the band entered Sound Logic Studios in Dallas to record their first and only album, Victims of Science . It was released in 1989 through Wild Rags Records . Eric Roy left the band before the album was released. A number of different bassists replaced Roy until a replacement was found with "Blade". He left the band after six months and was replaced for one month by Ghames Jones (bassist with Fortè ). Mark Powell joined the band for a short time, but quickly split up with them, so that "Blade" returned to the band and took over his old position.

This was followed by performances in Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Arizona and California . In Phoenix the band played together with Nuclear Death . This was followed by an appearance in Los Angeles with Oliver Magnum and Insecticide. In Oakland, California, they played a few gigs with the band Hexx . This also included a performance in the Omni Theater together with Sadus , Autopsy and Testament . On the way back to Texas they developed some new songs and recorded a demo in 1991. Further appearances followed until her last appearance at the end of 1992.

Rick Perry dedicated himself to his industrial metal band Puncture , released two albums and toured with GWAR . Varnam moved back to Louisiana and formed the band Cauldron. Scott Shelby played with Hammer Witch while Blade played with local bands called Rugburn and Nipple. Jamey Milford moved to Colorado and started a Christian rock group. On Valentine's Day 1998, Gammacide played again an appearance in Fort Worth , but without Milford.

In 2004 the band reunited. In 2005, Victims of Science was re-released through Gamma Records . The songs were remastered. The album also contained the songs from the 1991 demo, as well as two new songs.
