occupation

Archive is a science fiction fantasy thriller by Gavin Rothery that was released as video-on-demand in July 2020 in the USA. The film deals with the idea of “archiving” consciousness for a limited time by transferring the spirit or the “soul” into technology and that this does not mean that biological death is the end of life.

action

In the year 2038. Two and a half years after the start of a three-year research contract, the software programmer and mechanical engineer George Almore is on the verge of a breakthrough. He is stationed in a secret facility code-named "The Garden" in a snow-covered mountain near Kyoto and has been working on a model that resembles a real android, with the physique and mental capabilities of an adult woman. His prototype of a real artificial intelligence is almost ready. This most sensitive phase of his work is also the riskiest because he has to hide his real goal from his superiors. He wants to use the archived, digitized consciousness of his dead wife Jules in the humanoid robot J3 to revive her. His first two prototypes, J1 and J2, had a box-shaped robot shape and had not got beyond the intelligence of a toddler or adolescent. J3, however, comes very close to a real person, both visually and in terms of the feelings she develops for him.
