Ardfern ( Gaelic : Àird Fheàrna ) is a small town in the northwest of the Scottish Council Area Argyll and Bute . It is located on the west bank of Loch Craignish , a tributary of the Jurassic Sound about 17 kilometers northwest of Lochgilphead and 25 kilometers south of Oban . In 1961 there were 69 inhabitants in Ardfern. In more recent census data, Ardfern is no longer listed separately. The village is off the A816 , which connects the A83 at Lochgilphead along the west coast with the A85 at Oban.
Sights and surroundings
The remains of a cairn can be found directly to the north . It was probably a round stone grave with a diameter of about 13 m. The remains of a dun can be found northwest of Arfern . The building covered an area of 25 m × 11 m and is now in poor condition. With the Barbreck House there is a monument from the highest Scottish monument category A in the vicinity of the village. The manor house dates back to 1790. The Craignish Parish Church in Ardfern is classified in category B , just like the former rectory .
