The Jura Sound ( Gaelic : An Linne Rosach ) is a strait in Scotland . It separates the Hebridean island of Jura in the east from the Knapdale region on the British main island. There are numerous small islands in the north. The Jura Sound runs north-south and tapers towards the north. At its narrowest point it is about six kilometers wide. North of Jura, the strait is connected to the Scottish Sea by the Strait of Corryvreckan , which separates Jura and Scarba . Administratively, the Jura Sound belongs to the Council Area Argyll and Bute .

The Sound forms several bays along the coast of Knapdale, including Loch Sween and Loch Caolisport . About the in Loch Crinan ending Crinan Canal of the Sound of Jura with the inlet is Loch Fyne east of Knapdale and Kintyre connected. The coastal areas are only sparsely populated on both sides. Nevertheless, most of the extremely sparsely populated Jura lives on this coast, on which the main town Craighouse is also located.

The Jura Sound is not to be confused with the Islay Sound , which separates the Jura in the west from the neighboring island of Islay .
