Founded in 1996 by the insurance group Axa under the leadership of Dominique Senequier , the investment company managed assets worth USD 71 billion in Europe , North America and Asia in 2018 . Ardian has over 500 employees in Paris and in thirteen other offices (including Beijing , Frankfurt am Main , London , Milan , Madrid , New York City , San Francisco , Singapore and Zurich ). The company manages the investments of around 700 investors and oversees a large number of different funds that cover all asset classes, including funds of funds (primary, early secondary and secondary) as well as infrastructure funds and funds with a focus on small and mid-market enterprise capital, innovation & growth, co -Investment and Private Debt.

In September 2013, AXA Private Equity announced the separation from the Axa Group and the appearance under the new name Ardian.
