Ardico Magnini (born October 21, 1928 in Pistoia , Tuscany , Italy , † July 3, 2020 in Florence ) was an Italian football player . He took part in the 1954 World Cup with the national team of his home country .
biography
Club career
Ardico Magnini started his football career in his hometown Pistoia, where he played for the US Pistoiese as a youth . In 1957 he was accepted into the professional team that was playing in Serie B at the time. At Pistoiese he initially acted as a midfielder, but that should change two years later after he had left the now third-rate US Pistoiese and moved to Fiorentina . In Florence he played the position of defender and experienced his most successful period there. On January 21, 1951, he made his debut in a 2-0 win against SSC Napoli and scored his first goal in Serie A a little later on June 17 against Udinese Calcio . With AC he always played for the championship and was able to win it for the first time in the 1955/56 season under coach Fulvio Bernardini . In the following season he therefore played with Florence in the European Cup and was able to reach the final with the team, which was lost to Real Madrid . In 1958 he finally achieved his last success with Florence, reaching the finals of the Coppa Italia . He left Florence in the same year and played for two years with CFC Genoa in Serie A and even relegated to Serie B in his last season with the club. Then Magnini left the club and switched to Serie B promoted, AC Prato and ended his career there after one season.
National team
Magnini played a total of 20 games for the Italian national soccer team and was in the squad for the 1954 World Cup in Switzerland . Before that, it had already been used in qualifying . At the World Cup itself, he was used twice and scored no goal. He made his debut on April 26, 1953 against Czechoslovakia .
Private life
After the end of his career, Ardico Magnini ran a bar in the center of Florence together with his wife Anna until 2010 .
