Argentine Islands is the name of a group of islands in the Wilhelm Archipelago , 5 km west of the Antarctic Peninsula (English: Graham Land), 50 km south of the Palmer Archipelago and northeast of the Biscoe Islands .

The Galíndez Island , the Winter Island and the Skua Island form a group separated by only a few meters wide canals, a little further away are the Uruguay Island and other smaller islands.

The archipelago was first mentioned when it was named by Jean-Baptiste Charcot , head of the French Antarctic Expedition from 1903 to 1905. He named it after the Argentine Republic , whose government was frigate captain Ismael F. Galíndez (1871-1948) with the corvette Uruguay with the search for the Charcot expedition when it was considered lost in 1905.

The British Graham Land Expedition (BGLE) built a refuge on Winter Island in the Antarctic summer 1935–1936 , which was destroyed in 1946, possibly by a tsunami . The on January 7, 1947 newly built shelter of the Falkland Iceland Dependencies Survey (FIDS) was by James Wordie , a participant in Shackleton's Endurance expedition , Wordie House called. The station itself was named Station F or Faraday Station. It was closed with the relocation of the base to the neighboring Galindez Island on May 30, 1954. The main house of the new station was named Coronation House in honor of Queen Elizabeth II's coronation in 1953 .

Wordie House is in accordance with the Antarctic Treaty a Historic site (Historic Site and Monument No. 62 ).

Research station F (Faraday Station) was handed over to the Ukraine on February 6, 1996 , which continues to operate it under the name Vernadski Station .
