The Arka Publishing is a publishing house in Essen .

The company was founded in 1992 by Ulrich Straeter and Gerhard Abbenhaus as an 'offshoot' of Arka-Kulturwerkstatt e. V. (World Heritage Site Zeche Zollverein XII, Essen) founded in the form of a GbR . In 1996 Ulrich Straeter took over the publishing house on his own. Mainly travel literature and art catalogs are produced. Sporadically are anthologies or novels or short stories published.

Since 2000, in cooperation with the French Library and the German-French Cultural Center Essen , a brochure has been produced every two years with the results of a nationwide French-German translation competition for schoolchildren. In 2010, the 6th book project of the nationwide German-French student translation competition as part of a TWINS project Ruhr 2010 (Essen, Grenoble , Lille ) with the authors Marie Desplechin and Inge Meyer-Dietrich , supported by the French Embassy Berlin , with two Brochures accompanied. (Tout les sapins dorés - All the golden fir trees / Blues for Marie - Blues pour Marie).
