Armatocereus arduus is a species of plant in the genus Armatocereus from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet arduus means 'towering, steeply towering'.
description
Armatocereus arduus grows tree-shaped, branches about 2 meters above the ground and reaches heights of 4 to 8 meters. The upright, gray-green shoots later turn bluish. They are divided into 10 to 35 centimeters long segments with a diameter of 10 to 13 centimeters. There are eight to 16 ribs that are 1 to 2 centimeters high. The needle-like, gray thorns have a darker tip. The one to three expanded central spines have a length of 2 to 10 centimeters. The six to twelve spreading radial spines are only a few millimeters long.
Nothing is known about the flowers . The fruits are gray-green and up to 7 inches long.
The species is not well known.
Systematics and distribution
Armatocereus arduus is distributed in the Peruvian region of La Libertad near El Chagual in the valley of the Río Marañón at an altitude of 1500 meters.
The first description by Friedrich Ritter was published in 1981.
