Armin Gutowski

Armin Gutowski (born July 14, 1930 in Nuremberg ; † November 29, 1987 in Hamburg ) was a German economist .

Life

Gutowski was from 1967 to 1970 professor of economics and developing country research at the University of Giessen . From 1970 to 1978 he was Professor of Economics at the University of Frankfurt . In addition, Gutowski was from December 1970, as successor to Manfred Schäfer, a member of the Expert Council for the assessment of macroeconomic development . After he left in February 1978, Horst Albach was his successor. Gutowski then moved to the University of Hamburg as a professor of economics and became head of the HWWA Institute on November 1, 1978 . He remained both until his death.

Armin Gutowski was the author and editor of works on political economy , monetary theory and development policy . Including the standard work Hamburg Yearbook for Economic and Social Policy (several editions) and the book International Capital Movements Debt and Currency System (Mainz, 1984).

He was considered one of the most prominent advocates of the liberal economic order. In 1982 he was a co-founder of the so-called Kronberger Kreis . Armin Gutowski worked as an advisor to the German government and the Chinese government . He was invited there several times to give technical lectures. From 1966 to 1987 he was a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Federal Ministry of Transport .

Armin Gutowski was married to the Spiegel journalist Renate Merklein .
