Armin Luistro

Armin Altamirano Luistro FSC (* 24. December 1961 in Lipa City , Batangas ) is a Philippine friar of the Congregation Brothers of the Christian Schools , president of De La Salle University and since 2010 Education Minister in Cabinet Benigno Aquino III.

Life

After attending the Elementary School and De La Salle High School in Lipa City, he began to study philosophy and literature at De La Salle University in Manila and in 1977 with a scholarship from the friars of Christian schools founded by Jean Baptiste de La Salle graduated in 1981 with a Bachelor of Arts (BA Philosophy & Letters). He then completed postgraduate studies in religious education at the Ateneo de Manila University from 1981 to 1985 and continued this study from 1991 to 1993 at the University of De La Salle, where he also obtained a Master of Arts (MA Religious Education).

In 1997 Luistro was appointed provincial brother of the religious order in the Philippines and held this position until 2003. As such, he founded the Universitas Katolik De La Salle , also known as De La Salle Manado , in 2000 together with the Catholic bishop of Manado in Indonesia , Josef Suwatan is known.

In 2004 he was appointed President of the University by the Board of Trustees of De La Salle University and held this position until the founding of De La Salle Philippines, Inc., of which he has been President and Chief Executive Officer since then.

Luistro joined the united opposition in July 2005 , which called for the resignation of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo . He is also a well-known figure in the activities of the Black and White Movement , a group of proponents of the resignation, impeachment or overthrow of President Macapagal-Arroyo.

On June 24, 2010 he was appointed by President Benigno Aquino III. appointed Secretary of Education in his cabinet. His appointment as minister was partly criticized by political representatives such as Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago .
