Armin Schäfer is a German Germanist and literary scholar .

Life

Armin Schäfer studied modern German literature, philosophy and psychology in Munich , Bern and Siegen . After receiving his doctorate in 1995 as Dr. phil. At the University of Siegen , from 2002 to 2006, he was a research assistant in the research group “Writing life. Media Technology and the Sciences of Life (1800–1900) ”at the Bauhaus University Weimar . After completing his habilitation in 2003 at the University of Erfurt , he became a research assistant at the University of Konstanz in 2007 . In 2008 he was a fellow at the Cultural Studies College in Konstanz . From 2009 to 2010 he was a research assistant at the Leibniz Center for Literary and Cultural Research with the research project “Narratives of madness in metropolitan areas, 1900–1930”. In 2011 he took over the professorship for modern German literary studies and the history of media cultures at the FernUniversität in Hagen . In 2015 he took over the professorship for modern German studies, especially literature from the 18th century to the present day at the Ruhr University Bochum .

His main research interests are poetry, literature and the history of science, and the history of literature and media in the 20th century.
