Armin Weier

Armin Weier (born July 17, 1956 in Vorbein ) is a former German wrestler .

Career

Armin Weier belonged to the SG Dynamo Luckenwalde and was one of the best middleweight freestyle wrestlers in the GDR between 1976 and 1983 . In the GDR he had to fight against strong competitors like Peter Syring , Hans-Peter Franz , Frank Birke and Fred Hempel in his weight class in order to be able to compete in international championships. He only succeeded in doing this twice.

In 1978 he became East German middleweight champion, and he also got three medal ranks at East German championships.

At the European Championships in 1978 in Sofia he started in the middleweight division and came in sixth place with two wins, one of which was over the strong Turkish Mehmet Uzun. At the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow , he started again in the middleweight division, but retired after defeat against multiple world champion Magomed Arakilow from the Soviet Union and the Mongols Dzewegiin Düwtschin after the 2nd round.
