The Arminusweg is a 95-kilometer long- distance hiking trail between the North Rhine-Westphalian town of Porta Westfalica and the Lower Saxony municipality of Bramsche in Germany .

Surname

The path is named in honor of the meritorious Cheruscan prince Arminius (in some sources also Armenius ; * around 17 BC; † around 21 AD), who the Romans in 9 AD in the Varus Battle with the Annihilation of three legions inflicted one of their most devastating defeats.

course

The path runs from the Hotel Kaiserhof at the Porta Westfalica breakthrough along the Wiehen Mountains , through moorland, meadow and forest landscapes, through the municipality of Hille , the towns of Lübbecke and Preußisch Oldendorf in the Westphalian Mühlenkreis and through the municipalities of Bad Essen , Bohmte and Ostercappeln . It ends at the Kalkriese Museum and Park , an archaeological museum with an attached open-air museum in the Kalkriese district of Bramsch in the Osnabrück region .

18 information boards along the way provide information about the finds such as weapon remains, coins and other contemporary witnesses.

The Arminiusweg is connected to the road signs of a stylized white mask on a black ground - in - see Fig.

The route is supervised by the " Wiehengebirgsverband Weser-Ems e. V. ”based in Osnabrück .
