The Wiehengebirgsverband Weser-Ems e. V. is an association for the promotion of hiking , for the protection of nature and the landscape and for the maintenance of customs and home .

Association area

The area of the Wiehe Mountains Association (abbreviation: WGV) extends in Lower Saxony over the former Weser-Ems (except for the south of Osnabrück part lies the district of Osnabrueck which the Teutoburg Forest Club is assigned) and the district of Diepholz and in Westphalia over the Minden-Lübbecke district , the northern part of the Herford district and the former Tecklenburg district . The association has 123 clubs. It has its seat in Osnabrück and is in the register of associationsof the local court there (VR 1606). The WGV was founded on August 16, 1908 in Bad Essen and today has around 8,200 members.

Hiking trails of the Wiehengebirgsverband

The association is responsible for 16 association hiking trails with a total length of 1,664 km, namely the Arminiusweg (95 km), the Butjadinger Weg (51 km), the Emsweg (161 km), the Ems-Dollard-Pad (11 km), the Ems-Hase-Hunte-Else-Weg (86 km), the Ems-Hunte-Weg (86 km), the Ems-Jade-Weg (174 km), the Fehnweg (21 km), the Geestweg (200 km) , the Jadeweg (130 km), the Ostfriesland-Wanderweg (96 km), the Pickerweg (118 km), the Störtebekerweg (185 km), the Southern Touring Path (50 km), the Töddenweg (German part of the Handelsweg; 127 km) , the Wittekindsweg (93 km) and its northern variant (14 km).

The network of hiking trails of the WGV is included in the network of European long-distance hiking trails . The long-distance hiking trails E9 and E11 run in sections on WGV trails.

The Hünenweg was removed from the network of WGV routes in 2017. Since then he has been maintained by Emsland-Touristik and the Osnabrücker Land Tourism Association. The Hünenweg currently (2018, unlike until 2017) no longer ends in Papenburg , but after 150 km in Meppen ; it is to be extended to the Netherlands .
