Arnaud Beauville
Arnaud Beauville (* 1947 in Bologne ) is a French mathematician who deals with complex algebraic geometry .
Life
Beauville studied from 1966 at the École normal supérieure and received his doctorate in 1977 under Jean-Louis Verdier at the University of Paris VII (Denis Diderot) ( Variétés de Prym et applications , partly published in Prym Varieties and the Schottky Problem , Inventiones Mathematicae , Vol. 41 , 1977, p. 149). He was a professor at the University of Angers and the University of Paris-South XI in Orsay and is currently professor at the University of Nice Sophia-Antipolis (Laboratoire J.-A. Dieudonné des CNRS ).
Among other things, Beauville deals with the Schottky problem, that is, the characterization of the Jacobi varieties among the Abelian varieties , algebraic surfaces, connections of algebraic geometry to conformal field theory.
In 1986 he was invited speaker at the International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM) in Berkeley ( geometric approach to the Schottky problem ). For 2013 he was awarded the Prix Ampère . He is a fellow of the American Mathematical Society . In 2016 he was elected a member of the Academia Europaea .
He is a member of Bourbaki .
His PhD students include Claire Voisin and Olivier Debarre .
