Arne Andersson (born October 27, 1917 in Trollhättan , Västergötland ; † April 1, 2009 ) was a Swedish athlete who was successful over the middle distance from the mid-1930s to the mid-1940s. He ran four world records .

Arne Andersson started for Örgryte IS , later for SoIK Hellas . He was a teacher by profession. In 1945 he was banned for life for violating amateur law.

  • Winning two state championships over 1500 m (1942 in 3: 50.4 and 1943 in 3: 49.6 minutes)
  • In 1939 he was the first Swede to run the 1500 m under 3:50 minutes: On July 28th, he improved Eric Ny's 5-year-old national record to 3: 48.8 minutes.
  • On August 17, 1943 in Gothenburg , he set his record to 3: 45.0 minutes and improved the previous world record of his compatriot Gunder Hägg by eight tenths. For this achievement he was honored with the Svenska Dagbladet gold medal.
  • In addition, Andersson ran three world records over 1 mile :
    • 4: 06.2 min. On July 10, 1942 in Stockholm
    • 4: 02.6 min. On July 1, 1943 in Gothenburg
    • 4: 01.6 min. On July 18, 1943 in Malmö
