Arne Torger (born March 13, 1946 in Dals Långed , Sweden ) is a Swedish pianist .

Life

At the age of 13 Torger made his debut with Mozart's A major piano concerto . He is married to Friedl Torger.

education

During his school days in Stockholm he received lessons from Hans Leygraf . He later followed him to study in Hanover .

Teaching

Torger began teaching at the Stockholm Conservatory . This was followed by five years at the Academy for Tonkunst in Darmstadt, as well as at the universities in Heidelberg and Hanover. From 1980 to 1997 he was a professor at the Musikhochschule in Würzburg and then moved to the "Franz Liszt" Hochschule in Weimar as a full professor , where he taught until 2008. He also gave courses for piano and chamber music at home and abroad, at the International Summer Academy Mozarteum Salzburg , at the Leipzig Bach Archive and conducted international courses for Jeunesses Musicales in Weikersheim . For many years he was a teacher and chamber music partner in the courses in Sveg and Umeå / Sweden.

Concert activity

Torger's repertoire includes piano concertos by Bach, Mozart, Beethoven , Schumann , Grieg and Ravel , but also by Hindemith , de Falla , Messiaen and Stenhammar, as well as the Strauss burlesque. He gives concerts with the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Stockholm Philharmonic under the baton of u. a. Kurt Masur, Sixten Ehrling and Herbert Blomstedt. Currently (May 2013) he is performing all 32 Beethoven piano sonatas on eight concert evenings.

Publications

The first recording of all of Franz Berwald's piano trios (as a member of the Seraphin Trio) and his recording of Beethoven's last piano sonata op. 111 received excellent international reviews. Torger took over the piano part in the world premiere of Anders Eliasson's Horn Trio. There is also a CD with romantic Swedish cello-piano literature, which he recorded together with the solo cellist of the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra and professor at the Stockholm University of Music, Ola Karlsson.
