Arno Klarsfeld

Arno Klarsfeld (born August 27, 1965 in Paris ) is a French - Israeli lawyer and politician .

Life

His parents are Serge and Beate Klarsfeld , he studied law at the Universities of Paris I , Paris II and New York University .

Arno Klarsfeld became known as a lawyer for the Fils et filles de déportés juifs de France association ( sons and daughters of Jewish deportees from France ). He represented the association as a civil party in two trials for crimes against humanity against former high officials of the Vichy regime : Paul Touvier (1994) and Maurice Papon (1998) were indicted .

In 2002 he became an Israeli citizen .

In 2005, the then French Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy commissioned him to compile reports on the appropriate appraisal of the French colonial past as well as on crime and to act as mediator in the course of expulsions of children and homeless people. Klarsfeld is considered a confidante and advisor to Sarkozy, who was French President from 2007 to 2012.

In the general election in June 2007 , he was an unsuccessful UMP candidate in Paris. In the second ballot, he was defeated by the socialist candidate , Sandrine Mazetier , with 44% of the vote.
