Life

Arno Leicht was born in Werneck in Lower Franconia. From 1961 he attended the Wirsberg-Gymnasium in Würzburg . As a twelve-year-old boy soprano, he made his first television appearance with songs he had composed himself. Due to his early musical talent, the Würzburg University of Music accepted him as a young student for piano and composition in 1963 - parallel to attending high school. After graduating from high school in 1970, the junior course led directly to a professional full course at the same university. His teachers there included the pianist Peter Hollfelder and the composer Bertold Hummel . In 1972 Leicht obtained the state diploma in piano and composition.

In 1972 Arno Leicht was appointed lecturer for music theory at the University of Church Music in Regensburg . In the same year he took up singing studies at the Musikhochschule Würzburg with the bass-baritone Herbert Roth.

In 1974 Leicht became a lecturer in vocal pedagogy and music theory at the Hermann Zilcher Conservatory in Würzburg. In 1977 he completed his vocal studies with a diploma. As a lyrical baritone , a lively concert activity led him in the following years with lieder recitals, oratorios and concert operas through West Germany and neighboring European countries. His repertoire ranged from the early baroque to the modern; Among other things he sang at world premieres of works by Bertold Hummel, Josef Trompke , Ida Gotkovsky and Yves-Marie Bruel .

Several of the works composed by Arno Leicht in the 1970s and 1980s (primarily church and chamber music) found widespread use in German-speaking countries. His best-known work from this creative period is the "Deutsche Messe".

From 1988 to 1998 Arno Leicht was director of the Würzburg Conservatory. In 1999 he switched to teaching solo singing at the Nuremberg University of Music , which in 2011 awarded him the title of honorary professor.
