The Arnold André GmbH & Co KG is a German manufacturer of cigars and cigarillos, based in North Rhine-Westphalia frets .
history
The company (today's advertising slogan: The Cigar Company) was founded in Osnabrück in 1817 and is now Germany's largest cigar manufacturer. The cigar producer has been based in Bünde since 1851. In 1905 the company moved into its headquarters in Bünde, which is still valid today. In 1958 a new production facility was set up in Osterholz-Scharmbeck (production there until 1992) and in 1962 a further production plant in Königslutter am Elm was put into operation . In the 1950s and 1960s, Arnold André was the largest employer in Bünde with over 6,000 employees. Arnold André became famous for brands such as Handelsgold and Clubmaster, a cigarillo from the 1970s. The Tropenschatz brand is still one of the best-selling cigars in Germany.
In 1956, the administration building of the first Herford cigar factory, founded in 1842 by Wilhelm Böckelmann, was taken over in Herford on Hansastraße. Pipe tobacco and cigar boxes were produced here until the 1980s. In 1970 the Bünder cigar factory ELBACO, L. Bastert & Co. took over, and one year later ELBACO took over the Upper Franconian company CFG Schmidt KG. The takeover of the company Friedrich Garves KG came in 1980 and in 1988 the cooperation with the Dutch cigar manufacturer Elisabeth Bas (today: EBAS Group) began after the transfer of 25% of the shares from Arnold André. EBAS in Valkenswaard is part of the Swedish Match group, which held 40% of the shares in Arnold André until 2017. In 2006, the French sales company Arnold André SARL was founded in Lambesc . In 2008 the company took over the German distribution for the pipe tobacco brand Mac Baren. In 2011, the establishment of the second European branch, the Arnold André Unipessoal LDA in Montijo in Portugal's capital Lisbon , and the establishment of the Arnold André Dominicana SRL in Santiago de los Caballeros in the Dominican Republic . Long filler cigars have been hand-rolled there since 2015. With the repurchase of Swedish Match's minority stake in October 2017, the company is again 100% family-owned.
