Arnold Christoph von Waldow

Arnold Christoph von Waldow , also von Waldau , (born April 15, 1672 Stolzenfelde , Neumark , † April 3, 1743 in Breslau ) was the heir to Hammer and Költschen, lieutenant general, governor of Breslau and knight of the black eagle order.

He was the son of the Brandenburg Rittmeister Christian Sigismund von Waldow (1650–1707) and Katharina von Sydow (1651–1702). His brother Friedrich Siegmund von Waldow (1682–1743) was also a Prussian general.

Life

He first studied in Frankfurt an der Oder in 1690 and then went into Prussian service in 1694 in the cuirassier regiment No. 4 (Wreech). He was promoted to lieutenant on December 5, 1702 and wounded so badly at Höchstädt that he had to retire as an invalid. He then moved to Mecklenburg services in 1704. In 1709 he fought in the Battle of Malplaquet and in 1715 he was involved in the siege of Stralsund and the landing on Rügen.

In 1719 he was a colonel in a cavalry regiment in action near Walsmühlen, where he was slightly injured. Around 1723 he went to his estates until 1728, but then returned to Prussian service as chief of Cuirassier Regiment No. 12 (Winterfeld). On July 26, 1731 he became major general and Drost von Orsoy. He enjoyed the special trust of King Wilhelm I, whom he accompanied on his trip to Holland in 1738. In 1740 he became lieutenant general and on July 19, 1741 he became a knight of the Black Eagle Order .

He commanded 20 squadrons on the left wing at the Battle of Chotusitz on May 17, 1742 , where he received a serious head injury. He died as governor of Breslau as a result of the wound received at Chotusitz on April 3, 1743. He was buried there in the Church of the Eleven Thousand Virgins .

He was married to Elisabeth von Parsenow († August 31, 1744). His son Karl Ludwig (* 1721; † 1754 in Meichen) was married to Henriette Albertine von Trenck (1728–1760), the sister of the famous Friedrich von der Trenck . The daughter Katharina Charlotte (* 1710; † February 21, 1769) married Ludwig Ewald von Rohr (1711–?) In 1738.
