Friedrich Siegmund von Waldow , also von Waldau , (* 1682 on Mehrenthin ; † January 5, 1743 ibid) was the royal Prussian major general, chief of the cuirassier regiment No. 8 and heir to Mehrenthin.

Life

origin

He was the son of the Brandenburg Rittmeister Christian Sigismund von Waldow (1650–1707) and Katharina von Sydow (1651–1702). His brother Arnold Christoph von Waldow (1672–1743) was also a Prussian general.

Military career

He fought for the Swedes under Charles XII from around 1700 . and took part in the Northern War , including the Battle of Poltava . In 1710 he became a Swedish major.

Friedrich Siegmund von Waldow then switched to Prussian service as a lieutenant colonel on November 15, 1715, presumably his older brother recruited him. He came first in the Dragoon Regiment No. 3 (Derflinger). On October 1, 1718 he was appointed commander of the regiment, but had to relinquish command on October 26, 1719. On July 16, 1724 he became a colonel and on December 1, 1724 again commander of this regiment. Waldow was transferred to the cuirassier regiment No. 8 (leeches) as commander on February 26, 1728 . On October 15, 1734 he became chief of the regiment and on March 28, 1737 he was appointed major general. Although he had been ill for a long time, he also took part in the First Silesian War . On July 1, 1742, he received the requested farewell and died a few months later.

family

He was married three times. His first wife was Hedwig Katharina von Oppen in 1715 (* February 18, 1694, † April 28, 1725). The couple had several children including:

  • Friedrich Wilhelm (* February 7, 1717; † May 27, 1762) ⚭ 1753 Henriette Louise von der Marwitz (* March 6, 1730; † November 1, 1806)
  • Wilhelm Leopold (born August 3, 1718 - † February 6, 1788) ⚭ Julie Wilhelmine von Waldow from the Adamsdorf family

After her death, he married Helene von Güntersberg († August 6, 1733) in 1715 . The couple had the following children:

  • Georg (* around 1726)
  • Christian (* around 1728)
  • Dorothee (* around 1730)

In 1738 he married Luise Magdalene von Bornstedt († April 18, 1764). She was the widow of Lieutenant Georg Friedrich (III.) Von Bismarck (1697–1737) with whom she had the daughter Magarethe Hermine Auguste . Her parents were the Saxon major general Heinrich Ehrenreichs von Bornstedt and his wife Maria Katharina von Schenck from the Flechtingen family.
