Arnold Ludwig von Holtzbrinck (born September 20, 1811 in Altena ; † April 8, 1886 ) was a district administrator in the districts of Siegen and Altena and a member of the Prussian House of Representatives .

Life

Arnold Ludwig von Holtzbrinck was the second son of the district administrator Heinrich Wilhelm von Holtzbrinck and brother of the younger Heinrich Wilhelm .

After attending school in Altena, he attended a grammar school in Essen. He studied law in Berlin, Bonn and Heidelberg. During his studies he became a member of the old Bonn fraternity in 1830 .

At the same time, he served voluntarily in the Landwehr from 1830 . After passing the auscultator exam , he began his legal career on May 1, 1833 at the Altena Regional and City Court. This was followed by training as a trainee lawyer . His membership in a fraternity led to a six-year prison sentence, combined with the removal of all offices and titles. Thanks to positive certificates from previous superiors and a pardon (1837), he was still able to complete the second legal exam in 1839.

The lawyer von Holtzbrinck was district administrator in Siegen from 1846 to 1854. The administration of the Siegen office had already been proposed to him by royal decree on July 8, 1846. The actual takeover only took place in October, which was due to the poor health of his wife. During his term of office, the construction of the sand road, which led around the castle hill and thus relieved the strain on the draft animals, fell. At this time a new meadow order was also created and he introduced stricter police supervision and discipline of the gendarmes. This, as well as the revision of tax matters, meant that he was perceived by the population as a dashing civil servant and was apparently not particularly popular. However, von Holtzbrinck also attributed the averting of a famine in 1847 through the formation of a Kreiskornverein.

District Administrator von Holtzbrinck was also director of the Siegen Culture and Trade Association between 1849 and 1854. In 1849 he was elected rifle captain. In 1850 he was elected member of the Second Chamber of the Prussian House of Representatives.

On September 28, 1854, von Holtzbrinck was transferred to Altena as district administrator, after he had previously been appointed by the Iserlohn election commission as the first candidate for the district office there. There he retired on June 12, 1878, at the age of almost 67. However, he remained active as a member of the provincial committee . He had joined this in 1860.

He received several awards for his economic and social work. After he was appointed Knight of Honor of the Order of St. John in 1856 , he had a hospital set up at Altena Castle .

The burial of Holtzbrincks took place in the family cemetery of Gut Helbecke near Nachrodt-Wiblingwerde .

The daughter Henriette Caroline Anna, born in 1847, comes from his marriage to his distant cousin Emma von Manger.
