Arnold Ringier

Arnold Ringier (born October 16, 1845 in Zofingen ; † May 11, 1923 there ; entitled to live in Zofingen) was a Swiss politician ( FDP ), forest warden and officer . From 1880 to 1919 he was Councilor of the Canton of Aargau .

biography

The son of the tanner and district judge Friedrich Heinrich Ringier graduated from the canton school in Aarau . From 1864 to 1866 he studied forestry at the Eidgenössisches Polytechnikum in Zurich (today's ETH Zurich ). Here he joined the Corps Helvetia Zurich (WSC) . From 1868 he worked as an adjunct at the forest tree nursery in the canton of Aargau. Two years later he took over the management of the District Forestry Office V, which he held until 1880. Ringier also made a career in the military: in 1867 he was promoted to captain , in 1874 to major , 1883 to lieutenant colonel , and in 1892 to colonel of the Aargau Landwehr Brigade .

In 1880 Ringier successfully stood for election as a member of the government. First he took over the management of the Department of the Interior, after which he successively headed the State Economic and Building Department, the Finance Department, the Finance Department and finally the Education Department. His most important merits include the construction of the cantonal hospital in Aarau (today's Aarau Cantonal Hospital ), the organization of various water corrections , the establishment of an agricultural school in Brugg , the expansion of the educational system and the creation of the teacher's salary law. After almost four decades of government activity, Ringier resigned in 1919.
