Arnold Ross

Arnold Ross , born Arnold Rosenberg (* 29. January 1921 in Boston , † 5. June 2000 in Culver City , California) was an American jazz - pianist of swing and modern jazz .

Live and act

Arnold Ross mastered various wind instruments at the age of twelve and later learned to play the piano. In 1937/38 he visited the Caribbean and South America as a pianist for ship orchestras, played the Hammond organ with Frank Dailey in 1938/39 and was engaged as a pianist with Jack Jenney in 1939 and with Vaughn Monroe in 1940/42 . After his military service, Ross worked for Harry James and freelance in California from 1944 to 1947 . During this time he took part in a Jazz at the Philharmonic concert in 1946 with Charlie Parker , Lester Young , Howard McGhee and recorded with his quintet and Benny Carter in the same year. He also accompanied Helen Humes and played with Charlie Ventura , Red Norvo and Wardell Gray (1948).

In the summer of 1952 Arnold Ross went to Europe to accompany Lena Horne ; recordings with Dizzy Gillespie and Don Byas were made in Paris . After his return to the USA he worked mainly for television stations with Bob Crosby 1954–56 and with Spike Jones 1957–58, he also worked as a pianist and arranger for Billy Eckstine and Nelson Riddle . He worked on his recordings with Frank Sinatra ; the collaboration with Riddle lasted until the 1970s. He also led his own formations in Los Angeles . In the 1950s, Ross still recorded records with Anita O'Day , Barney Kessel and Harry Sweets Edison in 1953 and with Dave Pell in 1956.
