The Arona Clinic for Geriatric Medicine ( spelling ARONA Clinic for Geriatric Medicine ) was opened as a new building in January 2019 in the Berlin district of Marzahn-Hellersdorf , on Blumberger Damm 2G on the campus of the Berlin Accident Hospital (ukb). The hospital only treats patients aged 75 and over.
history
In the various medical fields, the question of how older patients can be better treated has repeatedly arisen. The established standard therapies often do not work as desired or as experience suggests. And above all, the healing or treatment often took longer - the entrepreneur Nikolai P. Burkart, the former Berlin Senator for Health Mario Czaja and Axel Ekkernkamp , the medical director and managing director of the ukb decided to found a special clinic for geriatric medicine and they decided to go to the On the campus. The Arona Clinic for Geriatric Medicine was built on a 17,000 m² site between the Blumberger Park condominium and Altentreptower Strasse, and cost around 30 million euros to build . On September 4, 2016, Mario Czaja symbolically broke ground . The architects had designed a building that has light, curved walls and lots of glass on four floors and offers a wide view of the inner courtyard .
On January 18, 2018, the topping-out ceremony was held on the premises of the Arona Clinic for Geriatric Medicine . The opening took place on January 25, 2019 with an open house . It is planned to set up a day clinic for inpatients as well as an acute geriatric unit .
description
Each floor has both single and double rooms as well as therapy and team rooms for the treating doctors, for the nursing staff and the therapists . There is also a large room on each floor with equipment for fitness and water therapy . There is virtual training for the patients on a game console . There is a large cafeteria in the building for employees and visitors. An outbuilding is connected to the main house, which offers plenty of space for administration. A restaurant with a roof terrace is planned on the roof of the clinic and there will be an underground car park .
The Arona Clinic is one of the first nationwide institutions that completely dispenses with paper documentation, i.e. works purely digitally . All patient data are combined in an electronic file and the specialists who are continuously trained in the field of IT have access to it using mobile devices. The introduction of a dashboard function is planned for 2020 and the number of beds is to be increased to 120 in the long term.
The name Arona is borrowed from Maori and Hawaiian and means colorful . The old patients should feel that here in particular, no gray monotony.
